WHY NALOXONE NEAR ME?<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Naloxone is a highly effective medication for reversing opioid overdoses. There are multiple sources of naloxone in each county, including no-cost sources and pharmacies, but people often do not know where to find it. The goal of this website is to inform the public about what sources of naloxone are available in their county. For counties with lower availability, the scorecard can be used to help inform decisions about what sources could be enhanced or added to improve naloxone availability.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Data for this study reflect known sources of naloxone from 2023. About the Naloxone Availability Score<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources of data for the score include Medicaid claims data, private insurance claims data, secret shopper studies of community pharmacies, and a survey of programs that distribute no-cost naloxone. A total of 31 naloxone distribution experts in NC engaged in a 2-stage modified Delphi process to reach consensus on which naloxone sources to include in the score as well as the weighting of those sources. A geographically, organizationally, and racially diverse Community Advisory Board then met to make minor adjustments to the final weighting algorithm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The highest score a county can receive is 100, which would mean that all 14 naloxone sources included in the Naloxone Availability Score are present in that county. Sources that have higher weights were deemed to be more impactful for increasing naloxone availability.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
